Italian screenwriter Franco Ferrini is responsible for many of shock maverick Dario Argento’s most notorious scripts, but Caramelle da uno sconosciuto (1987) represents the La Spezia native’s only turn behind the camera. The film is a seedy and brutally effective giallo thriller about a masked murderer with a fetish for slicing prostitutes with a gleaming razor. Knowing that their pimps and the cops are helpless to protect them, the women band together to stop the psychopathic scourge. In one of her very first screen roles, popular Italian goddess Sabrina Ferilli flashes her meatballs in a starring turn as one of the ladies of the night.
