Spain's bad-boy director Pedro Almodóvar whipped up attention here in the States for his brand of kinky cinema with the release of Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990). Antonio Banderas plays a mental patient who is released from the institution and proceeds to track down Victoria Abril, a drug-addicted porno star whom he's been infatuated with since boffing her on one of his many escapes. He has an odd way of showing his affection; he ties her up, as the title implies. Victoria likes being the submissive. When Banderas returns all beaten up after trying to score for her, she gives him a pity-fuck. After that he doesn't need rope to keep this sexy thing at his side. Bondage makes the heart grow fonder.
