The 1970s-set coming-of-age tale Summer Rain (2006) is directed by Zorro and Shrek star Antonio Banderas, from a screenplay by writer Antonio Soler, who adapted it from his own award-winning novel. After recovering from kidney surgery, young Miguelito (Alberto Amarilla) hangs with his compadres Paco (Felix Gomez) and Babirua (Raul Arevalo) while dreaming of becoming a poet. During the course of the warm-weather months, the friends get into scraps and scrapes, find and lose romance, and learn the realities of sex. Veteran vixen Victorial Abril is most enchanting as a typing teacher who provides Miguelito with the kind of private lessons that Sylvia Kristel specialized in back in Private Lessons (1981).
