“He left the CIA but they will never leave him alone!” That’s the tagline of Covert Action (1978), a stylish Greco-Italian crime thriller about an ex-secret agent (David Janssen) who makes enemies out of his friends by penning a tell-all book. When the CIA chief of staff in Athens (Arthur Kennedy) gets word of his employee’s actions, he turns the tables on him by putting a bounty out on his head. David Janssen’s career was winding down by the time he starred in Romolo Guerrieri’s stylish thriller, but the vet turns the charm on for co-star Corinne Clery, who falls into his bed for a memorable late-night screw.
