Gérard Depardieu stars in The Moon in the Gutter (1983) as a poor schmuck who’s spending his life brooding over his dead sister, Katya Berger. She committed suicide after being raped in the street, and his whole family has fallen apart in the aftermath. He’s not being much of a boyfriend to vixenish Victoria Abril, either. Things look up when Gérard falls for wild gal Nastassja Kinski, but Victoria turns out to be violently jealous. Gérard’s also distracted by what he thinks is a big chance to track down the rapist who got away. It’s a sad and sordid story, but Abril’s abbadabbas still brighten up the screen. Katya’s also unclothed, although there’s nothing sexy about her being on a slab in the morgue—is there?
