Long before he was galloping about in the defense of elves and hobbits, angular and handsome Viggo Mortensen was an FBI man who infiltrated the underworld of a worldwide Japanese crime syndicate in American Yakuza (1994). Director Frank A. Cappello’s stylish ballet of gunplay and high-testosterone posturing is an imaginatively presented tale of schizoid loyalties. Mortensen’s G-man impersonates a Yakuza associate with such commitment to detail and character that he ends up in bed boning the top boss’s hot-buns daughter!
