Review
Former L.A. punk musician-cum-director Allison Anders brings her love of rock and roll to the forefront in Things Behind the Sun (2001). Maybe she likes rape, too, because Kim Dickens plays an up-and-coming rocker from Florida who has a song rising on the charts about a rape. The song turns out to be autobiographical for Kim, who survives the violent act through a regiment of booze, casual sex and self-destructive behavior. An old friend, now a music journalist, is assigned a cover story on the guitar-slinger, and wouldn't you know it, old wounds are opened. Some legs are opened too, like Kim's in a threeway with two very lucky guys. Also, Alison Folland lets her large cannons blow in a hot sex scene. Looks like things behind the sun are pretty hot.
