Wild Wild West (1999) was the summer smash that audiences loved and critics wanted to smash across a rock. Based on the 1960s TV series The Wild Wild West, the film stars Will Smith as secret-service agent James West. It's 1869, Ulysses S. Grant is large and in charge, and Will and his sidekick, Kevin Kline, are Grant's go-to guys in the hunt for mad genius Kenneth Branagh. Using goofball gadgets and whackadoodle inventions like nitroglycerine-powered penny-farthing bicycles and giant mechanical spiders, Will, Kev, and Ken battle it out in highly expensive style. In fact, the film cost $180 million to make and is one of the more expensive movies in history. Which is A-OK, because the end result features Garcelle Beauvais, Bai Ling, and Victoria's Secret model Frederique van der Wal . . . and they're all worth the pay.
