One of the most star-studded casts in modern movie history was assembled for Roger Donaldson’s retelling of the true story of the mutinous Captain Bligh. Following the same storyline as Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Donaldson’s The Bounty (1984) stars Anthony Hopkins as William Bligh and Mel Gibson as the persevering Fletcher Christian, while Laurence Olivier, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Liam Neeson lend heft to the tale of high seas treachery. Christian struggles to escape the angry Brits and Bligh paddles desperately to East Timor, but the men can find comfort in knowing that their needs can be tended to on many a tropical island. That’s where Tevaite Vernette’s waiting, anyhow, to please the randy Englishmen.
