This stylish mid-eighties crime series refuelled the career of its star Don Johnson which (after a good start) had been in a downward spiral. It also boosted the careers of his “partner” Philip Michael Thomas and Edward James Olmos who played their boss. The highlight for all three actors came in 1986 when each of them was nominated for a Golden Globe, though only Johnson and Olmos actually won. Other strong assets were Jan Hammer’s catchy title-theme, well-filmed action-sequences, and a generally strong supporting cast (Michael Talbott, Pam Grier, and Belinda Montgomery to name a few). Throughout 111 episodes, five seasons, and almost five years we got to know Detective Sonny Crockett (Johnson), who lives on a houseboat guarded by an alligator named Elvis, and his African-American partner Ricardo Tubbs (Thomas). Together they set out to take on Florida’s drug scene. In terms of nudity, there’s some cleavage here and there but nothing actually noteworthy. Luckily supporting actresses Pam Grier and Belinda Montgomery have shown off elsewhere. While it’s anything but difficult to get your hands on a flick that contains shots of Grier’s gigantic mega-hooters (e.g. The Arena), Belinda Montgomery’s only nude-scene ever in the 1971 thriller The Todd Killings remains quite a mystery. Broadcast on TV, this flick is completely skinless while the video version apparently contains some tittie-action. According to a comment on IMDB, however, the original cut released theatrically in 1971 features the breathtaking blonde in all her full frontal glory.
