She’s supposed to be playing genuine royalty, but Sarita Choudhury gets the royal shaft as Queen Tara. Her Highness is basically locked up in a palace and forced to serve as a sex toy for her husband. Her best friend and servant Indira Varma is no prize, either, especially since she’s also slept with the King (in fact, the night before her friend’s wedding). The bitter servant eventually departs to learn the ways of love and returns as a courtesan of the leader of an invading army. Fortunately, the complex plot of Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996) includes a scene where the queen and her former servant work out their differences in lesbianic fashion.
