Lagardère is the hunchback of the title, Le Bossu (1997), who is entrusted with the safekeeping of the Duke’s daughter. After the Duke’s untimely death, the hunchback does his duty and takes the infant daughter far away from any imminent peril. Raising her as his own, he teaches her the fine art of swashbuckling and courtly behavior. Eventually she is reunited with her noble family, but it seems that there may be more to Lagardère’s relationship with the young girl than meets the eye. Don’t miss the nice shot of Marie Gillain’s rapturous rump as she dives into the water.
