Alternately titled Twist of Fate, the more concise name for Max Fischer’s American B-thriller–– Psychopath (1997)––more effectively gets at its depraved heart. Twin Peaks alum Mädchen Amick stars as Rachel Dwyer, a D.A. who’s been driven to uphold the law ever since her college roommate was brutally slaughtered and the suspect managed to slip away. Dwyer vows that the same is not going to happen when a co-ed killer (Chris Mulkey) ends up on her docket, but fate and justice would seem to have other plans. Amick frustrates expectations by remaining modest throughout this twisted B, but costars Karen Elkin and Claudia Besso are available to titillate and delight.
