No wonder the dot-com bubble burst! If The Center of the World (2000) has any basis in reality, those young stock-option millionaires didn’t have a clue how to spend their money. Long, languid brunette Molly Parker stars as a savvy and jaded, but still eminently attractive, stripper who agrees to spend a weekend in Las Vegas with a mega-rich twenty-something computer nerd. Parker is clearly the superior negotiator in the deal, securing $10,000 for forty-eight hours of accompaniment and imposing a set of conditions that includes no penetration, no kissing on the lips, and sexual contact only from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Since Center does aspire to be largely true to life, the stripper environment is presented with enough nudity to earn an NC-17 MPAA rating, and the guy does not get the girl in the end.
