Varying female lives intersect in The Dead Girl (2006), all centering on the corpse of the title, which is discovered by put-upon Toni Collette just before her fling with a grocery clerk who may be the killer. Rose Byrne is a forensics scientist who wonders if the deceased is her missing sister. Mary Beth Hurt plays the wife of a cretin who certainly seems guilty, while Marcia Gay Harden portrays the mother of the victim. Stark, deep, and profoundly moving, The Dead Girl also features nude turns from Toni and Mary Beth, injecting the otherwise grim drama with some welcome, sexy life.
