Dopers and their girlfriends do the darnedest things in Jesus’ Son (1999). Adapted from a slim but potent volume of short stories by Denis Johnson, Jesus' Son is an often comic, inescapably tragic, and ultimately hopeful descent into the lowlife of the 1970s druggie scene. A quirky and charismatic Billy Crudup stars as Fuckhead, the film’s narrator and guide. Naturally mesmeric and charmingly quirky blonde Samantha Morton steals hearts and messes with minds as Fuckhead’s trim and tasty free-spirit girlfriend—her love for Fuckhead is only one aspect of doom that descends upon this sweet and snarly beauty from the flophouse next door.
