After the success of Titanic (1997), Leonardo DiCaprio needed a break from all the fame and attention. So he decided to go to The Beach (2000). He was no fool; Parisian sweet tart Virginie Ledoyen was hanging out there in little more than her French manicure. The movie, by Trainspotting (1996) director Danny Boyle, based on the book by Alex Garland, tells the story of European backpackers who drop out and land on an island paradise that becomes corrupted by nasty gangsters that invade from the real world. Robert Carlyle puts in his usual strong performance, but Virginie's topless night swim is far more stimulating. Tilda Swinton also beds down the randy DiCaprio, but the dirty deed is done behind a curtain, so it's relatively skinless. All in all, life is a beach and then you get laid.
