After Aliens (1986), Resident Evil (2002), and their countless imitators and spin-offs, futuristic movie Marines ought to expect all kinds of gut-bursting, head-splitting troubles when being dispatched to investigate distress signals on far-off planets. Of course, if they did we would not have had the popular video game Doom or its 2005 big-screen spin-off. Available on DVD as Doom: Unrated Extended Edition, the action-packed movie features pro wrestler The Rock leading a crack Special Forces squadron to Mars in search of a missing science expedition. Blood, guts, zombies, and wild shoot-'em-ups turn the Red Planet really red, with some pink bits provided by luminous Blanka Jarosova.
