The original Maniac Cop (1988) is a cult favorite from the legendary exploitation duo of screenwriter Larry Cohen (It's Alive, God Told Me To) and director William Lustig (Maniac, Vigilante). Maniac Cop 2 (1990) continues the tale of Matt Cordell (Robert Z'Dar), a wronged police officer who's back from the dead and hell-bent for revenge, only it's bigger, wilder, crazier, and just all-around more ass-stompingly awesome than not only the first installment but virtually any other movie from the very last moments of the vintage grindhouse era. This time, zombified Cordell befriends a creep (Leo Rossi) whose kink is cutting up sex workers. Robert Davi and Claudia Christian play the living, non-maniac cops on the hunt for this terrible Times Square twosome. The stunts are amazing, there's a police-station massacre that blows away even The Terminator's lawman gun-down, and Paula Trickey, as a 42nd Street stripper, makes a mo(i)st tempting target for the bad guys . . . and your good aim too. Cop a feel of this B-movie blowout classic ASAP.
