What happens when the depraved genius behind films including Nice to Meet You, Please Don’t Rape Me! (1996) teams up with one of Japan’s most notorious producers of “pink movies”? The answer is Tokyo Elegy (1999), a perverse collaboration between the aforementioned Ian Kerkhof and Suzuki Akihiro. Popular Dutch actor Tom Hoffman plays a seedy gangster who falls hard for a beautiful Asian woman (Mai Hoshino) while trying to outrun a yakuza gang. Bullets fly, but the best tangling takes place between Hoffman and Hoshino, who reconcile their international differences by experimenting with kinky sex shot in a gritty documentary style.
