It can be argued, and convincingly, that getting married is a very bad thing in itself. Plus, the wedding is accompanied by traditions that invite dereliction, the most blatant opportunity for misbehavior being the bachelor party. Very Bad Things (1998) takes the worst-case scenario of a groom’s last hurrah gone wrong, then notches up the mayhem to the point of horrific absurdity. Not only does the hired stripper end up dead in a manner indicative of aggravated manslaughter in the hotel suite of male members of the wedding party, but the ordeal of disposing of her body becomes overbearingly gruesome for the more squeamish of the best men. They crack like girls under the strain. The most dire ramification of all? The wedding goes on as scheduled.
