Based on the popular video game of the same name, Silent Hill (2006) weaves a tale of horror around a somnambulant child who seems to possess a link to the supernatural. Christopher (Sean Bean) and Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) are so disturbed by the adopted daughter’s sleepwalking screaming sessions that they decide to find out what terrors are lurking in her subconscious. As it turns out, the girl’s haunted by early memories of the titular Silent Hill--an ash-covered, post-apocalyptic town populated by the dead souls of miners. Much of the film describes a hellish descent into this parallel universe, but there’re also some comfortably intimate moments with a beautifully assembled cast that includes Tanya Allen, Carrie Clayton, and Radha Mitchell.
