With his many Phantasm films, The Beastmaster (1982) and Bubba Ho-tep (2002), director Don Coscarelli has a pretty classic resumé. He’s also responsible for the mostly-forgotten actioner Survival Quest (1989). Lance Henriksen is a surly survival instructor who takes a passel of city slickers into the wilds of North Carolina. They run afoul of some evil paramilitary types who decide that the only good city slicker is a dead city slicker. This sleeper’s surprisingly strong cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Phantasm regular Reggie Bannister and a young Catherine Keener. Traci Lind--billed here as “Traci Lin”--also shows up as a skinny-dipping camper who gives the Rockies some competition for natural beauty.
