Alternately titled Midnight Matinee, the after-hours chiller Matinee (1990) is a made-for-TV feature about a haunted horror film festival. When the cinema gala was first mounted, a teenager was murdered in the same fashion as one of the characters on screen. The inhabitants of Holsten, British Columbia, are determined to plunge ahead with the festival in order to prove that the event was a freak occurrence, but history has a way of repeating itself. Angela Dohrmann appears as a screen star who disrobes to shag passionately with her lucky stud boyfriend, no doubt making men in the audience wonder why other movie moments can’t have real-life parallels.
