Lush and erotic, Bilitis (1977) tells the tale of a young French schoolgirl away at boarding school. Along the way the viewer is treated to complex themes of power, lesbian romance, and the confusion of adolescence, highlighted by David Hamilton’s usual fine photography. Patti D'Arbanville is fantastic as Bilitis, especially when she peels off her bathing suit, exposing as nubile a pair of nubbins as you will ever see.
