Freaks, the human variety as they exist at the decaying center of every modern urban setting, are fascinating people. But--as seen to gruesome and gratifying effect in Private Parts (1972)--association with Skid Row weirdoes can be perilous for innocent companions. Why oh why did fair young Cheryl insist upon arguing with her bossy roommate? And then what possessed the pure-hearted lass to lodge in a transient downtown hotel rather than return to her Ohio family? Can she not see the menace that lurks behind the wild eyes and within the frantic gestures of her new neighbors? These kooks are more compelling than anyone you’ve yet to meet in your short sheltered life, but Cheryl, please, you pure dear thing, don’t be lulled into believing the lunatics to be harmless oddballs.
