French director Cédric Klapisch scored an instant arthouse hit with L' Auberge espagnole (2002), an internationally flavored Gen-Y romantic comedy about a Barcelona apartment that plays host to a clutch of European twenty-somethings. A serious-minded French grad student (Romain Duris), an introspective married woman (Judith Godrèche), a British clown (Kevin Bishop), a sexy ex (Audrey Tautou), and other characters navigate cultural and language divides by humping like rabbits. Klapisch captures the hook-ups in all their giddy glory, opting to allow co-stars Godrèche, Tautou, and Cécile De France to play it fast and loose with their clothing.
