The unique terror of civil war is that civilians from a single, formerly united country are forced to chose sides and slay one another, which means that conscripted neighbors may be required to kill the guy they carpooled to work with the week prior to hostilities breaking out. In Shot Through the Heart (1988), a pair of lifelong friends are drawn to opposing forces in the battle for Sarajevo during the smash up of Yugoslavia. One of the pals becomes an expert marksman, training the snipers who ring the city and pick off their fellow citizens as though hunting squirrels. His buddy remains in town, aiding and abetting resistors. Fate cannot resist bringing the blood brothers face-to-face for a kill-or-be-killed climax.
