Vivian Wu is a calligrapher’s daughter who develops a serious ink fetish and seeks out another calligrapher to be her lover in The Pillow Book (1995). Too bad that calligraphy is an ancient art mostly practiced by ancient men. She’s then inspired to get some revenge on her father’s former publisher by seducing his male lover. Ewan McGregor is the lucky bisexual who gets to dip his pen into Wu’s well. You’ll be feeling lucky, too, as Vivian constantly flashes the camera in plenty of bizarre scenes crafted by director Peter Greenaway.
