Let us now pause to place our hands inside our shorts and contemplate a cinema prototype: The superficially shallow young Beverly Hills bimbo who, after gamboling through a plot filled with difficulties to be overcome, doubters to be charmed, and moral abysses to be blithely skipped across, is revealed to be a deceptively brainy, considerate, and principled young lady, complete with a heart of saccharine-laced honey. This Hollywood confection is so cute and concupiscent, precociously so from her push-up bra to her satin thong, that the casual viewer cannot help but entertain thoughts of sexual adventure. Rather than slathering over the jailbait version of this virginal vixen in Clueless (1995), isn’t it better to hold out for the statutorily approachable childlike adult of Legally Blonde (2001)?
