The HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011) may be a remake of a Joan Crawford star vehicle, but it differs from the original in two ways. First, it’s 3 hours longer. Second, and more importantly, it’s got infinitely more skin. Director Todd Haynes has re-imagined Mildred Pierce as an incredibly detailed period piece set in Depression-era suburbia, starring Kate Winslet as the titular Mildred. Mildred is a driven and independent woman who works her way up from a lowly “hash joint” waitress to owner of a successful restaurant chain. She is also a single mother to spoiled, money-hungry Veda (Evan Rachel Wood), who continually acts out to hurt her long-suffering mother.
Kate Winslet is skinfamous for her bold choices in nudity, and from the first episode of Mildred Pierce it’s clear her nude streak will not be ending any time soon. Mildred Pierce also contains the full frontal debut of Evan Rachel Wood, who dons a muff flap in order to give historically accurate bush. Merkin or no merkin, Mildred Pierce has us jerkin'!
