Based on a novel by Maeve Binchy, Tara Road (2005) is a tale of two ladies whose lives become linked by an accidental phone call. Andie MacDowell stars as a Connecticut momma who has it all until her son up and dies on her, the ingrate. Meanwhile Olivia Williams is over in Ireland getting dumped by her husband, Iain Glen, who's decided it's time to run off and play house with his pregnant woman-on-the-side, Heike Makatsch. Life is looking terrible for these two terrific lookers when the chance phone call connects them; on a whim, they agree—without ever having met—to switch houses for a while. It’s a two-month deal, long enough for each lady to get her head straight while getting away from it all. The months pass as they grow fond of their new digs, the new people in their lives, and the opportunity for introspection, gradually finding hope and the will to love again and whatever else people find in chick flicks such as this.
