Who truly, in the bigger picture of destiny and circumstance and preordained choices, is the greater prostitute? Should we condemn a woman lowborn who exercises her God-given wiles to escape her stifling reality? Or should the great ladies of high-flown society bear the moralist’s greatest scorn for pimping their souls in exchange for an existence of luxury and regal standing? What the hell, asks The Princess and the Call Girl (1984), why not cut out all that judgment and let the girls party? Two best gal buddies, a high-priced hooker and a filthy-rich heiress, look enough alike in body and face that they might credibly change roles for a weekend. Each takes up residence in the other’s life, and their similarities are every bit as enticing as are their differences.
