Despite the off-putting (or perhaps inviting) name, Edo Porn (1981) won multiple Japanese Academy Awards for it’s depiction of the life of famous Edo-period Ukiyoe artist Hokusai. Equal parts erotic and comedic, Hokusai is a broke old man who falls madly for the beautiful Onao (Kanako Higuchi). When she disappears, he finds a girl who looks exactly like her and gets his rocks off painting her naked, climaxing with the now famous picture of a woman being “seduced” by an octopus in the great-granddaddy of all tentacle porn. Kanako somehow manages to keep still while the creepy-crawly gets nasty on her nude body! Hokusai’s daughter Oei (Yuko Tanaka) also loses her shirt for a couple of hot scenes.
