Beautiful Ingmar Bergman veteran Liv Ullmann made her first big-screen splash in the otherwise forgettable Scandinavian drama Ung flukt (1959). Though she would go on to lend her startlingly good looks to film classics like Persona (1966) and Autumn Sonata (1978), Ullmann’s initial performances were likewise compelling. Edith Carlmar’s Norwegian coming-of-age tale stars Ullmann as Gerd, a feisty tart who falls madly in love with adolescent Anders (Atle Merton). The boy’s parents disapprove of Gerd’s sexual assertiveness, thereby forcing the young lovers on the run. Ullmann spent many years perfecting her acting talents but wasted little time showing her most ravishing assets to the camera. Don’t miss the strawberry blonde Swede as she slithers into an icy Scandinavian lake sans clothing.
