Granted the theater of war is a cauldron of pain, death, and anguish, but there is a bright side. A certain breed of thrill seeker finds the battle zone to be a powerful aphrodisiac. The newspaper correspondent who marches to A Different Loyalty (2004) has traveled to Beirut to report upon the ongoing hostilities in that minuscule but massively volatile Middle Eastern region. No sooner has she unpacked her typewriter than she crosses paths with an English colleague. Almost immediately upon meeting, he is packing her. A great love blossoms forth, until the Englishman disappears amid a swirl of allegations that he is a shill for the KGB.
