From 1977 to 1985, New York City boasted a thriving sexual entertainment underworld, the nookie-drenched nucleus of which was an on-premises fornication club called Plato’s Retreat. The no-holes-barred documentary American Swing (2008) chronicles the revolutionary rise and disheartening downfall of this greet-and-meat mecca during the heyday of porn chic and Manhattan’s hyper-decadent, anything-goes disco era, along with the triumphs and travesties of its owner, Larry Levensen. Nudity abounds in American Swing, and among the most niftily noteworthy is that of pioneering adult-film sensation Sharon Mitchell.
