Alright Already

Picture the scene – the executives of the WB sitting around trying to figure out where they’re next (uh… first) big hit is going to come from. Then one of them complains about how his glasses rub his nose too much and BAM! There it is, let’s have a sitcom about an optometrist! Of course, that’s the kind of lame idea that usually precedes a quickly canceled show, and this was no exception to that rule as Alright Already was ditched at the end of season one.  But, though the premise was ridiculous, it’s a damn shame the thing was cut. This was actually, despite the weak idea that brought it into being, a decent show. Carol Lerner (Carol Leifer) was an optometrist who has to deal with a variety of embarrassing situations, bad dates, and wacky family relationships, all pretty run of the mill stuff, but this was actually pretty well written, pretty well acted, pretty well directed stuff. Co-stars Amy Yasbeck and Stacy Galinadid nothing to hurt audience appeal either, but as happens with most of the best sitcoms, someone in a suit decides to ditch it because it’s not the next Ally McBeal. Alright already, I’ll let it go!
