All Dogs Go To Heaven: The Series

Review

Way back in 1989, United Artists put out an animated film that made a little coin, called All Dogs Go To Heaven. It featured a casino owning dog called Charlie getting murdered by his rival, Carface, then finding himself in Heaven. Charlie’s not happy in Heaven however, since his killer hasn’t been brought to justice, so he cons his way back to the living, with the warning that so damns him to Hell. It’s then that he finds an orphan girl who can talk to the animals, thus allowing him to cheat at the racetrack. Wha? This is a kids’ flick? Anyway, the TV series features Charlie and his buddy Itchy living in San Francisco, doing odd jobs for Heaven. Kind of like the characters in Kevin Smith’s Dogma? (Pun intended.) Those giving voiceover flavor to this series (which duly spawned a sequel film) were Steven WeberDom Deluise,Ernest BorgnineSheena Easton, and Bebe Neuwirth, which begs the question, why get people of that moderate level of fame to do voices when the kids won’t know who they are? Yeah, there are plenty of eight-year-old Dom Deluise fans out there, aren’t there? Go with ‘nobody’ voiceover artists and keep the little guys in Ramennoodles, you unthinking bastards!
