A Room in Town

A Room in Town (1982)

Great Nudity!

Review

Jacques Demy's ambitious operetta A Room in Town (1982) weaves together the lives of four people in 1955 Nantes, France, where a strike is on and everyone sings when they should be talking. Richard Berry is a striking steelworker who's renting a room from high-class Danielle Darrieux, a widow who sides with the strikers even though she's an upper-cruster. Richard's got a girl, but she's with child, and that makes him want to withhold his attention. Instead, he turns to Danielle's dandy daughter, Dominique Sanda, a randy sort who gets her kicks turning tricks even though she's married to a real-deal moneybags. Their relationship starts when Dom shows up in Dick's room in nothing but a fur coat, which she quickly whips open to bare her furburger and cheese wheels. Vive la France and femmes sans underpants!
