Mr. Skin often wonders how many men are scared off of watching the television series Ugly Betty because of the show’s name. But far from the mental images “ugly” conjures, the show is filled with cute little numbers like Vanessa Williams, Rebecca Romijn, and, of course, Latina lovely Ana Ortiz. The daughter of a former Philadelphia City Councilman, Ana attended a performing-arts school in Pennsylvania, studying ballet and voice before switching to theater. After some sporadic television work, the ambitious actress devoted herself to acting on a screen, and landed roles as Santa Clemente on the TV series Kristin in 2001, as Ana Rivera in A.U.S.A. in 2003, and as Anna in Over There in 2005, before nabbing the part of Hilda Suarez in Ugly Betty, Betty’s decidedly un-ugly big sis. Playing the character from 2006-2010, saucy Ana gets a few different scenes wearing just a bra and showing off her fab curves. Ever the hard-worker, she landed guest-starring roles on various series, and even took a few turns on the big screen in Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son (2011) with Martin Lawrence and Sleeping With the Fishes (2013) with Gina Rodriguez, before landing another hot role, as Marisol Suarez in the TV series Devious Maids from 2013-2016—and yes, she is muy caliente in lingerie! You’ve also seen her as Dr. Mary Hernandez in The Mindy Project in 2017, and heard her as the voice of Lucy Tucci in the animated series Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh and its accompanying TV movie Home: For the Holidays (2017), as well as the recurring Rafa in Elena of Avalor from 2016-2020. Ana always seems to win at the game of TV series, and had the regular role of Susan Sampson in Whiskey Cavalier in 2019, Camilla in Quibi’s #Freerayshawn with Laurence Fishburne in 2020, and Isabel Salazar in Hulu’s Love, Victor from 2020-2021.
