Peach DVD has ignited a revolution in softcore erotica.

The L.A.-based studio combines the most stunningly gorgeous female talent ever photographed with cutting-edge technology to deliver scorching entertainment not only on DVD but also in the form of Video on Demand, mobile communications, and all manner of new (and nude) developments.

The company was established in 2004 by David James, who had previously rewritten the history of adult entertainment by co-founding the ultra-high-profile hardcore powerhouse Vivid Video.

As with Vivid, Peach DVD is powered by top-of-the-line product and onscreen eyefuls that seem far too beautiful to even exist, let alone be naked... right there... for your enjoyment.

David spoke with MrSkin.com about the fruitful times at Peach DVD.

How did Peach DVD get started?

Originally I started the company Vivid Video with a partner, Gene Hirsch. Three or four years ago we did Vivid television channels like Playboy, [and] we also took on a third partner. It was crowded with three people. So I went into the background and just for a hobby I started Peach. Peach is a different market than Vivid, and it gave me something to do in between fishing or traveling. I'm still on e-third owner of Vivid Video, but I'm one-hundred-percent owner of Peach.

What market? You said Peach is a little bit different market than Vivid.

Peach is going for the market similar to Playboy. Vivid is more X-rated. Also we concentrate on things such as mobile phones and VOD (video on demand). Throughout Europe we sell to those markets very well on mobile phones, VOD, etc. Not yet in America because America is not quite up to speed with child-protection services. Soon, though, America will start using our stuff in those markets, and it is a very profitable market actually.

You mean the mobile phone people can download it on?

People download it onto their HD, they burn a disc, they watch them on TV in motels, etc. The mobile phone is the wave of the future.

So your biggest market sales are in Europe?

Not really. It's probably 50/50. We do a lot of business in the music stores, and those people are not carrying X-rated material but want to carry our videos.

How did you start Peach? What's your mission statement?

We have no mission statement. I needed a hobby between going fishing and traveling around the world. I didn't want to compete with Vivid because they are very well established worldwide. I just wanted something as a hobby for myself. We wanted to shoot a different line along the new tech mobile, etc. We started shooting movies that would be used for straightforward DVD disc sales but also for vignette type programming for the mobile telephone [and] also for the download to burn, etc.

What goes into the selection of the girls?

Hopefully they are all very beautiful, very charming, and very spontaneously funny.

How do you find the actresses?

I don't take part of the shooting myself. The people who do shoot the movies also work here as well. It's entirely up to them to develop the movie: the theme, the actors.

So there isn't a formal script, just a theme and then girls, correct?

Basically that is correct. We were making interactive movies where there would be multiple angles and multiple endings. We realized that these movies were too complicated for the consumer. In most cases, they don't want to play around with multiple angles, so we want vignettes.

It's like having your own personal stripper on your computer or phone.

Yes, basically.

How many Peach Girls are there right now?

On a regular basis, not very many, because we tend to go for new people all the time. One of the reasons for that is that a lot of the young ladies tend to go on to do X-rated movies, etc., and one of our points is selling to a lot of the regional stores and music shops who do not want X-rated people on the cover of the boxes. So we are always looking for new talent all the time.

Since you're already selling your videos in music stores, is there any chance you'll branch out and begin selling music videos?

No, we don't want to get involved with that. When I say music stores I mean computer stores, game stores, and video stores, so very much across the board. The type of stores we do not sell to is the adult sex shops, because it's not their market and they don't want to carry it.

Why?

Because people who tend to go to adult stores are looking for triple-X entertainment, and shelf space is at a premium; X-rated stores they would rather fill their shelves with X-rated movies and that kind of thing. Because of our subject matter, people like Amazon or Columbia House [carry our videos], and [there are] many other markets for us other than XXX stores.

Do your video directors all work at Peach headquarters?

They do work here. The reason is the president and the man in charge of all the technology believes that if they work here it gives them more interest in making a good product and they have to sell the product. It's just more of an all around involvement for them.

What goes into being a Peach DVD girl?

Being bright, cheerful, good looking, well built, etc.

In hardcore, the trend seems to have gone more toward "reality" porn, or gonzo. What do you think about that?

The adult-video market is similar to the music business, losing profits because of file-trading sites taking all the profits. Movies are now sold for such a cheap price a lot of companies can't afford to make a movie so they tend to go to a very cheap gonzo type product.

These movie producers will go by the wayside and then the market will continue to do more quality films. When you talk to a company like Vivid, which is doing very well with such things as television, mobile phones, VOD, there is not one company that goes anywhere near the diverse sales that Vivid has. Peach tends to follow that line of thinking.

Ron Jeremy says that the women in adult videos are much nicer looking now than in the past. Do you agree?

I think they've always been very nice looking. I think now that stigma of adult movies isn't quite what it was before so many more women aren't afraid to do adult.

What's your favorite sexy moment from a Hollywood film?

Halle Berry coming out of the water in the James Bond movie Die Another Day. (Picture: - )
