Swedish cinema has a way of motivating movie-makers in the US. After the Scandinavian short Lights Out (2013) was released, it was remade into the feature Lights Out (2016) with Maria Bello in the States. Similarly, the comedy Force Majeure (2014) resurfaced in America as Downhill (2020) starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. And then there’s master filmmaker Ingmar Bergman whose work influenced homegrown auteurs Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and Quentin Tarantino. The latter was also inspired by Alex Fridolinski’s film Thriller: en grym (1973), also known as The Swedish Vice-Girl, They Call Her One Eye, Hooker’s Revenge, and Thriller: A Cruel Picture. The Swedish sexploitation flick follows Frigga (Christina Lindberg) who was made mute by the trauma she suffered as a child. The damsel in distress later loses her eye via her pimp (Heinz Hopf). Yes, the naked babe is forced into prostitution as seen in a number of creepy scenes — from being snapped in the nude by a camera-carrying dude to being slapped by Despina Tomazani who gets graphically Sapphic with her. At the 53-minute mark, Ms. Tomazani strips so she can straddle Ms. Lindberg. Too bad the striking woman strikes Christina. After flashing her three Bs while doing clients and drugs, Frigga finally takes on her oppressors in an explosive orgy of violent revenge. Tarantino openly cites Thriller as the inspiration for his Kill Bill movies, and for Daryl Hannah’s one-eyed character Elle Driver. No doubt, you’ll be grabbing your one-eyed monster when you watch this kinky flick!
