Review

From Trainspotting (1996) director Danny Boyle comes 28 Days Later (2002), a witty ‘n’ gritty Romero-esque zombie flick. Digital video adds jittery tension and a live-from-the-trenches feel to the story: an injured bike messenger awakens from a coma to find London deserted, the entire population having been wiped out by a deadly virus that instantaneously turns its hosts into undead beings with a frenzied appetite for human flesh. He soon hooks up with a couple of similarly stranded survivors, and the group attempts to make their way to flesheater-free sanctuary. Sadly, bloodied and mangled skin is the only skin you’re gonna see here, although the backdrop of guts ‘n’ gore is significantly softened thanks to drop-dead delicious costar Naomie Harris.
