10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) is a sequel of sorts to the original alien invasion film Cloverfield. This time, however, the movie isn't shot with a handheld camera and it involves all of three characters. A young woman named Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) gets into a car accident and wakes up in her underwear in a bunker chained to pipe. The man who comes downstairs (Hank, played by John Goodman) seems formidable but tells her there's been a horrible alien invasion and that he saved her for her own protection. Another young man named Emmett is there, confirming the story to be true. They buckle down to ride out whatever is going on outside, but Emmett and Michelle begin to figure out that Hank is just—if not more—dangerous than whatever is going down on the outside. It's spooky, but it's infinitely better than the original, and not just because of the sexy scream queen Winstead!
