10:30 P.M. Summer (1966)

Brief Nudity

Review

A renowned cast of French cultural heavyweights makes contributions behind and in front of the camera in the sumptuous arthouse drama 10:30 P.M. Summer (1966). Directed by Rififi (1955) auteur Jules Dassin from a script by Hiroshima, Mon Amour (1959) writer Marguerite Duras, the film chronicles a dysfunctional road trip across the hot and dusty Spanish countryside. Melina Mercouri plays an alcoholic wife and mother who latches onto a sexy drifter (Romy Schneider) mid-vacation, quickly torpedoing the trip. Their tryst is short-lived but affords some priceless footage of the peerless Schneider in the buff.
